Online Therapy in Michigan

Online Therapy in Michigan

Not everyone lives near an affirming therapist. Some people live two hours from one. Some live somewhere where the only nearby option isn’t a good fit, or isn’t safe.

We see clients online anywhere in Michigan. Marquette, Escanaba, Traverse City, Alpena, Kalamazoo, wherever you are. Same therapists, same care, no drive.

Who this is for

  • You’re outside a city, and the affirming options nearby are thin or nonexistent
  • The closest therapist who gets it is a long drive, and gas and time add up
  • The closest therapist who you want to see is a long drive, and gas and time add up
  • You’d rather not be seen walking into a counseling office in a town where people know you
  • Work, kids, health, or a car that doesn’t always start make a standing appointment across town hard
  • You just prefer virtual.

What online therapy is actually like here

It’s therapy. You and your therapist, on video, for the usual amount of time. Most people find it takes about one session to stop noticing the screen.

You’ll get a link to click via email, and that will open your virtual appointment screen. You will need to be somewhere you have privacy for the appointment, such as a room you are in alone and the door is closed. Sometimes people have their appointments in their car alone, and that is okay, if that is what you need, as long as you are not driving, you are somewhere safe, and no one else is in the car.

If your internet is unreliable, tell us, so we can figure out what to do.

The therapists you’d be working with

The majority of our team holds LGBTQIA2S+ and other marginalized identities. You can read their bios and pick whoever feels like the right fit, or let us help match you.

What we work with

Anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, neurodivergence, gender and identity, relationships, life transitions, college student stress, work burnout, and more. We use ACT, CBT, DBT, EMDR, EFT, and Motivational Interviewing, blended to fit you.

We also do WPATH assessments and letters of support for gender-affirming surgery, entirely online, anywhere in the state. If you’re outside a metro area, that’s often the hardest thing to find locally. We can help.

Questions people ask

Does online therapy actually work? Yes. The research is solid for most of what people come in for. If we think you’d be better served in person or by someone else, we’ll say so.

Do I need to be in Michigan during the session? Yes. Our therapists are licensed in Michigan, so you need to be physically in the state when we meet. If you travel, tell us, and we’ll work it out.

Can I switch between online and in person? Some of our therapists offer both. Others are virtual only. It depends on what your therapist offers.
