Therapy for Children

For young people who need a space built with their developmental stage in mind.

Looking for a children’s therapist in Lansing? You’ve come to the right place.

Bringing your child to therapy is a big step, and often a hard one. Maybe something’s changed and you can’t quite name it. Maybe the meltdowns, the worry, the withdrawing, or the trouble at school have gone on long enough that you know they need more support than you can give alone. No matter the reason you are bringing your child to therapy, we are here to team up with you and help your child where it is needed.

What therapy looks like for kids

Children’s therapy rarely looks like an adult talking on a couch. Kids don’t always have words for what they’re feeling, so we meet them where they are. For younger children, that often means play, art, stories, and games, the natural language children use to show what’s going on inside. For older kids and tweens, it’s a mix of real conversation and creative, hands-on ways to work through things. Either way, the goal is the same: a safe space where your child can understand their feelings and build skills that help them at home, at school, and with friends.

And you’re part of it. Therapy works best for children when the grown-ups who love them are involved. Depending on your child’s age, that might mean sessions that include you, regular check-ins, or coaching so you have tools that help at home too. You won’t be left in the dark

You might be here because your child

Every child is different, but some of these may sound familiar:

  • Seems anxious, worried, or scared more than usual
  • Has big feelings or meltdowns that are hard to come back from
  • Is withdrawing from friends, family, or things they used to love
  • Is having a hard time at school, with focus, behavior, or getting along
  • Is dealing with a big change like a move, a loss, a divorce, or a new diagnosis
  • Complains of stomachaches or headaches that don’t have a clear cause
  • Is working out who they are, including their gender or identity
  • Is neurodivergent and needs neurodivergent affirming support
  • Is neurodivergent and needs affirming support

If difficulties like these last for more than a few weeks, or start getting in the way of home, school, or friendships, it can be a good time to reach out. You don’t need a crisis, or a diagnosis, to ask for help.

Why families choose us

We center kids who don’t always fit the mold, and the families who love them. That includes LGBTQIA2S+ kids, kids of LGBTQIA2S+ families, neurodivergent kids, and kids who’ve had experiences that were too big to carry alone.

Our therapists are trained to work with children in ways that are affirming, trauma-informed, and tuned to where your child is developmentally. And because we’re part of Wild Ferns Wellness Center, we have a sensory room on site, so kids can have therapy in a space that encourages exploring, playing, learning nee skills and a is set up to help a child’s nervous system settle when they need it.
